Green Hope Elementary might be a new school, but it already
has a rich history. The original Green Hope School started in this community in 1927. The
school was a consolidated school, having all
grades (1st - 12th) until 1952. Green Hope became
the first accredited rural high school in the Wake County Public School
System. After educating the children of the Green Hope community for 25
years as a consolidated school, it then became an elementary school. The
original Green Hope Elementary was in operation for 11 years. It closed
it's doors in 1963 after a fire destroyed it. A lot of memories were lost
in the school fire. Memories such as school records, athletic trophies,
photographs and yearbooks went up in flames. However, the former students
and community never gave up on their most special school - Green Hope.
Their beliefs and love continue to soar. In fact - when they heard that a
new school was to be built in the area, they took their story to the Wake County
Public Schools Board of Education. Because of their undying commitment we
are sharing that name.
The original site of the school is located on Green Hope
School Road off N.C. Highway/55. The many graduates/alumni who have
remained in the area are very proud of their namesakes. We're a new school
with an old and rich school history.
